Non-Surgical Hair Loss Options
By Preet of Cashvally.com

Although many of us will share loss as a common trait in our lifetimes, each of us will choose to deal with it in a different way. The method we as individuals choose may not be right for everyone.

The easiest and cheapest way to deal with loss is to do nothing. This may sound like simple answer, but the truth is that it is not a simple world. We live in a society where emphasis is often placed on appearance. It is difficult for most people to go bald naturally, which can cause insecurities.

Propecia is an FDA approved loss treatment in pill form. In fact, it is the only FDA approved oral loss treatment. Propecia is taken once per day and approximately 2/3 of people who take it see new growth within about two years. The main benefit of Propecia is that it can stop you from losing your hair, by blocking DHT, a hormone that causes loss. Approximately 80% of people see their loss stop. There are some side effects to Propecia, which are primarily related to the male’s sex drive. Propecia can cost anywhere from $40 to $60 per month to take. Rogaine is a topical lotion that is massaged into the scalp twice per day.

The primary ingredient is Minoxidil, which was the first FDA approved treatment for loss. Rogaine comes in Regular Strength (2% Minoxidil) and Extra Strength (5% Minoxidil). Studies have shown that Regular Strength Rogaine grows in about 35% of test subjects, and Extra Strength grows in about 55% of test subjects. Rogaine does not block DHT, and the benefits seen from Rogaine could lose their effect after several years. Rogaine can cost from $20 to $30 per month.

Many people combine both Rogaine and Propecia, and use both at the same time. The Propecia will block DHT and prevent further loss. The Rogaine will help new growth. It is best to discuss taking these two items at the same time with your doctor. Vitamin and Mineral supplements have been shown to stop growth and also stimulate new growth. Taking a daily multivitamin can help provide all of the nutrients your body and need. However, there is no replacement for a healthy, well balanced diet.

There are many cosmetics that seek to mask loss. They are usually in the form of sprays, creams, and powders that make the appear thicker than it really is. While these are not a true treatment for loss, they can hide the fact that you are losing your hair. They will not change the inevitable, and for most people, this is not a viable long term option. Other non-surgical loss treatments include pieces, such as wigs or toupees.

These can be attached to the scalp by tape or glue, or can be clipped onto existing hair. High quality, realistic pieces can often be expensive to purchase and maintain. There are many non-surgical loss treatment options available. Only you can decide what is best for you. Talk to your doctor and get their recommendations for how you can best prevent and treat loss.
